How Do I Tell Work I am Seeking Treatment?
Telling your employer you need time off for treatment can feel difficult, but you have options and legal protections. In the United States, laws such as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) may allow you to take medical leave while protecting your job. In most cases, you only need to inform your supervisor or human resources department that you require medical leave. You are not required to share specific details about your condition or treatment.

Your employer may ask for basic documentation, such as a medical certification, depending on the type of leave you use.
